Formula D

Formula D is on my 10×10, so since I have to play it 10 times, so to pick up the back half of the year we’re running a Formula D league!  Track selection will be done by random number generator (excluding duplicate tracks) for balanced play.  Track randomness will be weighted, with simpler tracks being weighted heavily for early slots and more complex tracks being weighted for later.  We’ll probably be using F1 cars over stock cars (though this is really arbitrary), and of course, role playing as your character is encouraged.

Sponsorship and team rules are PROBABLY going to be included as well (player count permitting).

Rules are standard Formula D rules with the following additional Grand Prix rules:

  • The season will last for ten circuits, where two laps are run for each race.  This means a total of 10 tracks and a total of 20 laps.
  • Point system – 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 awarded for 1st – 10th place that finish the race.  If you crash you get no points (NP) and your rank for the race is DNF (did not finish).
  • Car construction – We will use 20 wear points for car construction.
  • Weather and tire rules will be used after the second race.  Before those two races, it’s sunny skies and dry tires.
  • Poll position order will be determined by rolling the black die.  The highest die roll will take pole position.
  • Red Line rule – may spend 1 engine wear point to move an extra space after rolling the die. This is useful for making it into a corner rather than landing just outside.
  • Those racers who did not finish the previous race  of a circuit will start the next race behind those who did (rolling the die for positioning if there is more than one)
  • Each racer will begin with 2 repair points.
  • Repair points can be spent between races to repair any damage done in a previous circuit.
  • Repair points will be rewarded in inverse proportion to ranking.  This should in theory encourage those that are falling behind to push their car harder, as they may have more repair points to spare.  This should make things more balanced.

For consistency it is preferred that the same racer drive the same car, though substitutions may be made (just like in real life!) if needed.

I’ll be placing the standings in a chart below, along with the race dates (bgg play entry link):
